La revocatoria del mandato es un derecho político por medio del cual los ciudadanos dan por terminado el mandato que le han conferido a un gobernador o a un alcalde.
Se podrán inscribir iniciativas para revocatoria del mandato si han transcurrido doce (12) meses contados a partir del momento de la posesión del respectivo gobernador o alcalde y no faltare menos de un año para la finalización del respectivo período constitucional. Vale la pena resaltar que la Sentencia C-150 de 2015 determinó la segunda restricción temporal que debía interpretarse en el sentido de que, a partir de la entrada en vigencia de la Ley Estatutaria, en ningún caso proceden trámites ni votaciones para la revocatoria del mandato en el último año del período correspondiente.
Esta iniciativa es de origen ciudadano, sin embargo, lo podrán presentar también las organizaciones sociales, partidos o movimientos políticos cumpliendo con los requisitos exigidos en la Ley 1757 de 2015.
